WA Schools’ Band and Orchestra Festivals

There are four festivals:
  • The WA Schools’ Senior Band Festival
  • The WA Schools’ Senior Orchestra Festival
  • The WA Schools’ Junior Band Festival
  • The WA Schools’ Junior Orchestra Festival

These four events are run in a partnership between ABODA WA and the Instrumental Music Schools Services (IMSS), Department of Education W.A.

The aims of the festivals are:
  • To give ensemble members a performance opportunity at an outstanding venue.
  • To give ensemble members an opportunity to hear other ensembles perform.
  • To provide each ensemble with constructive comments from a panel of expert adjudicators.
  • To provide each ensemble with a post performance workshop on request.
  • To present to each ensemble a certificate which recognises its participation and standard of performance.
Festivals Registration - Important Dates for 2026:
  • The 2 Senior festivals - Applications open Week 4, Term 1 on Friday 27 February 2026 and close Week 3, Term 2 on Friday 8 May 2026
  • The 2 Junior Festivals - Applications open Week 4, Term 1 on Friday 27 February 2026 and close Week 7, Term 2 on Friday 5 June 2026
  • Late registrations may not be accepted.

New for 2025

All ensembles are expected to present an appropriate program of up to 3 pieces. There are no set work requirements this year, which is a change for 2025. However, each piece presented should align with the following publisher-indicated grade levels.

  • Concert Band:
  • Premier Division = grades 4 and above
  • A Division = grades 3 and 3.5
  • B Division = grades 2 and 2.5
  • C Division = grades 1.5 and below
  • Full Orchestra:
  • Premier Division = grades 4 and above
  • A Division = grades 3 and 3.5
  • B Division = grades 2 and 2.5
  • C Division = by application only. Please email president@abodawa.com.au.
  • String Orchestra:
  • Premier Division = grades 4 and above
  • A Division = grades 3 and 3.5
  • B Division = grade 2.5
  • C Division = grade 2
  • Novice Division = grade 1.5 and below

If a work you wish to perform does not have a publisher-indicated grade, please email president@abodawa.com.au for guidance.
